Dear Students, Parents, and Teachers,
I hope this message finds you well. It is my pleasure to provide you with some important updates regarding upcoming events and opportunities at Orange County High School.
Underclass Makeup and Retake Picture Day: We are excited to announce that Underclass retake and makeup photo day is swiftly approaching. This is an excellent opportunity for those who missed their initial photo day or wish to have their pictures retaken. Attention Parents of current 10th graders. Orange County Public Schools is excited to announce our partnership with Germanna Community College to offer our students the opportunity to graduate with an Associate Degree in Education at no cost to families while earning their high school diploma. Beginning fall of 2024, this 2-year, 1/2-day program is completed during the junior and senior years.
Please join us for an information session to learn more about The Future Educators Academy (FEA). Virtual sessions will be held Tuesday, October 24 from 7-8 p.m. and Thursday, October 26 from 7-8 p.m. To access the meeting link, go to the OCPS website located under news or parent resources.
Virginia College Application Week. Seniors, check your email from Ms. Robinson for Virginia College Application week running from 10/23-10/27. Also, if you need fee waivers for ACT/SAT or college applications then please reach out to your guidance counselor.
Second Chance Breakfast. I wanted to take a moment to express my delight in witnessing the positive impact that our free breakfast and lunch program has had on our school community. It's heartening to see so many of you taking advantage of this program, and I'm excited to share some important news with you.
Because of your collective efforts and participation, I'm pleased to announce that OCHS has qualified for an additional three school years in the free breakfast and lunch program. This is a significant achievement and a testament to your commitment to making a difference. I encourage each and every one of you to continue with this initiative as it not only benefits you but also secures this program for our school in the long run.
To put your tremendous efforts into perspective, this year has seen a remarkable increase in breakfast participation, up by an impressive 500%, and lunch participation has also risen by 100%. Your dedication to this program is truly commendable, and I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for your active involvement.
However, with growth and success, we sometimes encounter challenges. To manage the increased participation efficiently, we will implement a structured approach starting on Monday during advisory. Here's how it will work:
Students will be called to the cafeteria by floors. Those in the basement and field house will be first, followed by the 1st floor, and finally, the 2nd floor.
I want to stress the importance of returning to class promptly with your breakfast if you decide to leave class to obtain it. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary actions, as leaving class without returning with breakfast will be considered skipping.
I want to clarify that students are only allowed to receive one breakfast per day. If you've already obtained breakfast before the start of school, you cannot get a second one during advisory. This ensures fairness and allows everyone to benefit from the program.
Once again, I want to congratulate all of you for your role in this achievement, and I appreciate your continued cooperation in making this program a success. Your actions are not only impacting our school positively but also making a meaningful difference in the lives of our fellow students.
Upcoming Events: Here is a brief overview of some of the events happening at our school next week:

Orange County Public Schools established a Character Education Committee which has worked diligently to review the Character Education curriculum and resources approved by the Virginia Department of Education to determine what elements to use in the OCPS Character Education Program. The Committee then developed an Essential Resources Guide which was presented to the School Board at its August 21 meeting. The Committee is now seeking public input on the resources guide prior to Board approval. If you would like to review the resources guide and submit your feedback please use the links on the Orange County Schools website prior to September 30, 2023.
Parents, we had a great week and wonderful parent conferences this past Friday. If you were unable to make it to the parent conferences and you would like to speak with a teacher then please reach out. We would be happy to talk with you.
Parents, I wanted to take a moment to discuss an important matter regarding your students' academic progress. As we've been reviewing grades, one consistent factor has come to our attention: students with low grades often have incomplete assignments, resulting in zeros in the grade book.
I kindly request that you please check your students' grades in PowerSchool. It's an essential tool for monitoring their academic performance. If you encounter any difficulty accessing the website, there are two options available to you:
Student Access: You can ask your student to access PowerSchool and view their grades. Encouraging them to take an active role in monitoring their progress can be a valuable learning experience.
School Assistance: If you require assistance setting up or accessing your parent portal account, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school. We have dedicated staff ready to help you navigate PowerSchool effectively.
Let's work together to ensure that every student has the support and resources they need to succeed academically. Our goal is to eliminate those zeros in the grade book. With your involvement and commitment, we can reinforce the mindset that "Zeros Are not Permitted!" Thank you for your attention to this matter, and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or require assistance with PowerSchool. |

Good Evening Students and Parents,
Monday morning, we will take a few moments during the morning announcements to remember the events of 9/11. We have a lot of fun and exciting things planned this week, but let's begin our week with our pledge of allegiance, a moment of silence, and a reflection on the 9/11 event that has impacted everyone. After this presentation, we will kick off our homecoming festivities!
Here's a quick rundown of the themed days: Monday: Pajama Day - A comfy start to the week! Tuesday: Hat Day or Anything but a Bookbag Day - Get creative with your headwear! Wednesday: Twin Day or Dress Like a Staff Member - Time to find a lookalike or mimic your school staff! Thursday: Decades Day - Dress up in styles from different eras. Friday: Orange and Blue Day - Show your school spirit by wearing your school colors.
We have a fun-filled week ahead, but remember to stay within all school guidelines for dress and behavior and everyone will have a great time during homecoming! If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to ask.
We have an exciting and memorable day planned for this Friday. Here's what's in store: Pep Rally: The day will kick off with a pep rally in the afternoon. Get ready to show your school spirit and cheer on your teams! Adjusted Bell Schedule: Due to the lunch schedule, your classes will have shorter periods on Friday, except for the 3rd block. Be prepared for a slightly different school day. Parade Preparation: After school, head to the student parking lot to help decorate for the parade. It's an excellent opportunity to get involved and contribute to the festivities. Homecoming Parade: The parade will start at 5:00 p.m. and make its way through town. This is a chance for the community to see your school spirit on full display! Homecoming Football Game: The day will culminate with the homecoming football game at 7:00 p.m. at Porterfield Park. Remember to come out and support your team! Tickets are $8. Student tickets are 1/2 price with a valid OCHS School ID. It will be an action-packed day, so get ready to have a blast and show your school pride. Enjoy the activities, and have a great time.
And then, we wrap up the week's festivities with our Homecoming Dance. Date: Saturday night Time: 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Location: OCHS Tickets are available for $10 each, and you can purchase them in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Outside guests are permitted as long as they meet the guest requirements and their paperwork is complete and turned in by the end of the school day on Thursday. It's an excellent opportunity to enjoy a fun evening with your fellow students, so grab your tickets and get ready to dance the night away!
On a different note it's important to check out your school photos. You can view them on Victor O'Neil's website at vophoto.com/underclass. Make sure to have your student ID number ready, as you'll need it to access your pictures. Take advantage of the opportunity to see and share your school photos! |

Hello Students and Parents, |

OCHS weekly update
8/13/2023
Good Evening Students and Parents,
Parents, we had a great first week of school last week, and I greatly appreciate your support with the dress code. I have seen improvement. Please continue to speak with your son or daughter about following the dress code. We will continue enforcing dress codes, and repeat offenders will be addressed.
Orange County High School will practice safety drills such as tornado and fire this week. In addition, we will have our first Code Red Safety drill. We use the code red drill to practice safety procedures in case of serious life safety events such as an active shooter on campus. I will be asking everyone to treat this drill as if it was an actual event. So students, please follow your teacher's instructions. Parents, once we have completed the code red drill, I will send out a call and email letting you know it has ended.
Students, we will have class meetings during the advisory period this week. We will begin on Tuesday with the 9th grade, followed by the 10th and 11th grades on Wednesday and Thursday.
Seniors will meet on Friday, and this will begin at 8:30 am.
That's it for your weekly update and I hope you have another great week.
